Novice Scent Training

Service Description

This class is designed for teams who are furthering their scent work journey or preparing to compete at the novice level. We will focus on building strong foundational skills needed for successful searches in AKC, CPE, and NACSW style trials. Throughout the course, teams will practice novice-level searches while systematically developing the core elements of scent work, including container, interior, exterior, vehicle, and buried searches. In addition to search skills, we will emphasize clear communication between handler and dog, effective leash handling and movement through search areas, building odor recognition and confidence across multiple target odors, developing handler observation skills and timely reward delivery, and creating thoughtful search strategies appropriate for each element. This class is ideal for dogs who have taken intro to scent training who want additional practice before moving to advanced levels, with the goal of building confidence, strengthening teamwork, and preparing teams to successfully enter and enjoy novice scent work trials.
